Taylorville Kiwanis Hear from Taylorville Junior HIgh School Principal at Weekly Luncheon

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club heard from the new principal at Taylorville Junior High School, during their weekly luncheon Tuesday.

Jessica Miller began her teaching career in 2001 at Pana, focusing on information technology.  She later earned her administration certificate and became the T-J-H-S principal this year.

Miller told the Kiwanis Club that with the help of students and faculty, she developed a mission/vision/values statement for the junior high school.

Miller added that she is enabling students to experience leadership in community outreach, activities, and fund-raising to give to community causes.

Miller said some 40 8th graders at T-J-H-S are involved in “Project Lead the Way” in the technology STEM lab, and she added that the junior high school offers 9 different extra-curricular activities for students.

Future projects for the Junior High include an outside classroom, and integrating agriculture into the junior high curriculum.

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club is part of global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.  Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at noon at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.  For information on the club, go to taylorvillekiwanis.com.
