Taylorville Kiwanis Club Hears From One of Its Own About Veterans Memorial

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club heard from one of its own members who is chairing the committee proposing the construction of a Taylorville Veteran’s Memorial at Lake Taylorville, during their weekly luncheon Tuesday.

Retired Taylorville dentist and long-time Kiwanis member Doctor Ron Mizer, is heading up a committee initially organized by the Downtown Taylorville Organization, to build a Veteran’s Memorial at Lake Taylorville.

Mizer told the Kiwanis members that the engineering plans are done, and approvals have been received from the City of Taylorville City Council and its Lake Committee.

Mizer added that the Veteran’s Memorial Committee visited over half a dozen similar memorials in towns across Central Illinois, before coming up with their own plans.

Mizer said the committee will be selling stones in the memorial, as a means of raising the 200-thousand dollars it will take to build it.

Mizer is hopeful that the project will be completed within 2 years.

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club is part of global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.  Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at noon at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.  For information on the club, go to taylorvillekiwanis.com.
