Shelby Electric Announces Solar Project

The power supplier for Shelby Electric Cooperative has announced its intention to build one of two new 500-kilowatt solar electric production facilities at the Shelby Electric's headquarters in Shelbyville.

When this is completed, the two solar farms will produce enough electricity to supply 1,500 families every day. Kevin Bernson, the Vice President of Media and Public Relations of Shelby Electric, tells Regional Radio that they are very excited to be a part of the plans.

Bernson says they will be negotiating with contractors and the project will begin sometime in the summer. The other 500-kilowatt solar electricity facility will be located near Canton, Ill. where Spoon River Electric Cooperative provides electricity distribution service to nearly 5,000 members.
