Taylorville School Superintendent Talks about Power of a Penny at Kiwanis Club Meeting

width=Taylorville Community Unit Schools Superintendent Greg Fuerstenau, was Tuesday's guest speaker at the weekly luncheon meeting of the Taylorville Kiwanis Club at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.

Fuerstenau told Kiwanis members and guests, about how what he called “The Power of a Penny”, meaning the 1% sales tax referendum passed a few years ago by Christian County voters, has enhanced the learning atmosphere in the Taylorville School District.

Fuerstenau said over 12-million dollars worth of improvements are being made in Taylorville school buildings, including all buildings being air conditioned. The Taylorville Superintendent said that alone has improved the attitude of learning in district buildings this school year.

Fuerstenau added that many challenges face the Taylorville District, including declining birth rates leading to future decreased enrollment, as well as decreased state aid.

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club is part of global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at noon at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium. For information on the club, go to taylorvillekiwanis.com.
