width=The Taylorville Kiwanis Club heard from the chairman of the Christian County Board Paul Schmitz, at the club's weekly noon luncheon Tuesday at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.

Schmitz gave an overview of the many departments of Christian County government, adding that the county has had to do more with less money over the last 10 years. He added that only one budget was balanced from 2002 thru 2012, and the budget for this fiscal year is projecting a 500-thousand dollar loss.

Schmitz told Kiwanis members that the continued loss of revenue from various sources, plus additional one-time expenses, have contributed to the challenge of operating county government.
Christian County government has some 110 full-time employees and another 20 part-time staff in various offices according to Schmitz.

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club is part of global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at noon at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium. For information on the club, go to taylorvillekiwanis.com.
