Area Superintendents Rally For SB 16

A bill regarding school funding will be the subject of a hearing in Springfield this afternoon, and dozens of administrators from around the state will rally in support.

The 125 superintendents will include Dr. Greg Fursteneau of Taylorville and Dr. David Lett of Pana. The measure, SB 16, was sponsored in the Senate by the recently reelected Democrat Andy Manar. The bill would distribute funding in a way seen as beneficial for many poorer districts. Like many other districts in the state, Pana and Taylorville have been funded at a rate of 89% for years.

The bill's prospects in the House are uncertain. Some districts have complained that the measure would cost them substantially.

SB 16's proponents say Illinois ranks at the bottom of the list for funding equity among states.
