Taylorville School Board Receives Report from FFA Members at Tuesday Night Meeting

The Taylorville School Board met Tuesday night, and received a report from the Taylorville FFA Chapter about their recent attendance of the Future Farmers of America National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. Four members of the chapter addressed the board and expressed their thanks for allowing them the opportunity to be a part of the more than 65,000 members in attendance. They spoke of the many inspirational speakers as well as the myriad of career opportunties that were presented. Lane Bollinger shared his experience as a National Finalist for his record book on his work on pulling tractors. Also addressing the board were Co Presidents Ben Curtin and Alec Myers as well as Mary Kate Curtin. Every board member was presented thank you letters from all of the FFA members that attended the convention.

The hiring of Lisa Cowell as a cafeteria worker at Memorial Elementary School and the approval of a leave of absence for Joy Stafford were the only personnel issues presented to the board. In other business the members unanimously approved 4 overnight stays for the Tornado bowling teams for upcoming tournaments. The board voted to retain First Midstate as underwriter and Chapman and Cutler LLP as bond counsel and disclosure counsel for a potential Life Safety Project. The proposed 2014 tax levy was reviewed and will be adopted at the December board meeting. Dr. Feurstenau reported that the building project was moving along and was on schedule. He also reported that the Tornado football team had reached the 3rd round of the IHSA football playoffs for the first time in school history. The meeting was adjourned at 7:33.
