Park Board Agrees to Give $10,000 to Christian County Historical Society

The Taylorville Park District board approved unanimously to give $10,000 to the Christian County Historical Society during their regular monthly board meeting Tuesday evening. Jodi Heberling, Director of the Historical Society was present and requested help from the board for some pressing repairs that are needed in the next 30 days, including a furnace unit and some roof repairs. She requested help in the amount of $5000. It was determined that the board had been levying taxes for a museum for many years. After some discussion the board agreed upon the $10,000 based on the amount of tax money that had been collected over the years. It was decided that the Park Board would implement an agreement to give the Historical Society money every year. The amount will be determined and voted on later.
The Board also heard a request from the Taylorville JFL to allow them to put a 20x16 addition on the structure presently used for storage by the JFL. Jeff Wright of Wrightway Construction was on hand with blueprints that he shared with the members of the Park Board. The Junior Football League will pay all costs incurred with the addition and was merely seeking permission. The board approved the request. They also approved a request from the Red Bland Little League to put up a batting cage at the Don Bragg Sports Complex. They will be pouring a 16'x57' long concrete pad between the softball diamonds.
The annual Manner's Park pool report was given to the Taylorville Park Board and it was agreed that the summer programs were a success overall with the numbers being much better than last years. Recreation Director Bailey Hancock informed all in attendance that the park was gearing up for Christmas in the Park and that everything was moving forward quickly. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 pm.
