County Damage Assessment Team Meets

After severe weather yesterday (10-02), it's good to know that someone is preparing for disaster scenarios.

The Christian County Damage Assessment Team participated in a disaster exercise Wednesday at the Tayorville Fire Department, with a simulated 90 second F-4 tornado. The team discussed communications and the types of assessments they might need to provide.

In the event of a disaster, the Damage Assessment Team's job is to prioritize resource allocations. It's also there to show those affected that the first steps toward recovery are being taken. The volunteer group is required to undergo extensive training.

Taylorville Fire Chief Mike Crews says having Damage Assessment Teams has already proven valuable in the region after recent flooding of the Illinois River.
