About 150 teachers and students were sent to the hospital from North Mac Jr. High School in Girard recently, apparent victims of carbon monoxide poisoning. The incident has brought calls for mandatory carbon monoxide detectors in Illinois schools.
Representative Wayne Rosenthal of Morrisonville says having the detectors is a great idea, but spending decisions should be made at the local level:

Fortunately, none of the victims in Girard died of the carbon monoxide poisoning.
