Car-Train Accident Claims One

Christian County Coroner Amy Winans has released the name of a woman killed in a train-car accident near Manner's Park early Sunday Morning. Dead is 66 year-old Kathleen A. Rhodes of Taylorville.

According to a news release from the Taylorville Police Department, Christian County 911 got a call a few minutes after 2:00 am Sunday about an accident involving a train and a vehicle.  When officers arrived near the intersection of South Main and Palmer Streets, they reportedly found the vehicle along the tracks, fully engulfed in flames.  The Fire Department was summoned, and extinguished the blaze.

Christian County Coroner Amy Winans declared Rhodes dead at the scene. Her body was reportedly taken to Bloomington, where an autopsy is scheduled for Monday (9-22).

The incident remains under investigation by the Taylorville Police Department, the Christian County Coroner's Office and Norfolk and Southern Railroad.

The City of Taylorville is no stranger to train related deaths. Back in June of 2007, two pedestrians were struck by trains in Taylorville in one day. In a tragic coincidence, the separate incidents occurred within three hours of each other. One man was killed, while another was seriously injured.
