Taylorville Kiwanis Hear About Concealed Carry

width=The Taylorville Kiwanis Club learned about the new Illinois gun concealed carry law, at their noon luncheon Tuesday at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.

John Garner, a retired master sargent formerly with the Illinois State Police, founded the Illinois Concealed Carry Academy north of Edinburg, and provides concealed carry classes that are required under the new state law.

In remarks to the Kiwanis Club, Garner said that that guns provide what he calls a “constant state of peace”, adding that Illinois law does require those wanting to carry guns in the state to jump thru a lot of hoops.

Garner told the Club that police in Ferguson, Missouri, were wrong in using military tactics to handle the recent unrest there, and said police should have communicated more with protesters, and been more part of the community than they were.

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club is part of global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at noon at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium. For information on the club, go to taylorvillekiwanis.com.
