Christian County Sheriff's Office also requested the assistance of Illinois State Police SWAT to assist with negotiations.  During the confrontation, Edwards, who was reportedly armed, fled to the roof and eventually set it on fire and then fired his weapon in the direction of officers.  ISP SWAT returned fire, killing Edwards.

Three other individuals were reportedly located inside the residence during the initial response and were detained for questioning. At this time, no motive has been determined and the investigation continues.
