Rep. Davis Votes to Empower Students and Improve Higher Education System

U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis of Taylorville this week voted for a series of bipartisan bills to empower students and improve America's higher education system by increasing transparency, enhancing financial counseling for students and parents, and ensuring colleges and universities have the ability innovate.

The bills approved by the House this week include:

The Strengthening Transparency in Higher Education Act increases transparency by requiring the Department of Education to create and publish online a consumer-tested College Dashboard that would provide crucial information about higher education institutions and provide a link to this database on a student's FAFSA.

The Empowering Students through Enhanced Financial Counseling Act provides students and parents who participate in the federal loan program annual counseling to ensure borrowers are aware of their financial options and obligations.

The Advancing Competency-Based Education Demonstration Projects Act of 2013 promotes innovation by directing the Department of Education to implement competency–based education demonstration projects giving colleges and universities the flexibility to provide a quality education that best meets the personal and financial needs of their students.
