TPD Reports 6 Injured in 2-Vehicle Accident Sunday

The Taylorville Police Department reports that 6 people were sent to the hospital following a two vehicle crash Sunday. Around 10:44am, 78-year-old Glen W. Ballard of Dana told police that he was traveling south on Spresser Street and reportedly did not see the stop sign at the intersection of Spresser and Route 48. Ballard said he could not get stopped before striking 75-year-old Joseph B. O'Brien of Taylorville who was traveling east on Route 48. After striking O'Brien, Ballard reportedly spun around and came to a stop on the south side of Route 48 on Spresser Street.

After being struck, O’Brien’s vehicle reportedly flipped at least once and hit a highway sign located on the south side of Route 48 before coming to a rest on its side in the ditch. O'Brien's vehicle was towed from the scene. Ballard was issued a citation for disobeying a stop sign and his vehicle was towed from the scene.

Ballard and O'Brien were both transported to Taylorville Memorial Hospital with injuries described as not physically evident by the report. 56-year-old George J. Ballard of Wenona and a 16-year-old male were transported to Taylorville Memorial Hospital with injuries described as minor by the report. A 14-year-old male and 73-year-old Elaine F. O'Brien of Taylorville were transported to Taylorville Memorial Hospital with injuries described as not physically evident by the report.
