Michael Hady (HAY-dee), manager of the Taylorville Ahlstrom (ALL-strom) Filtration plant, was Tuesday's guest speaker at the weekly meeting of the Taylorville Kiwanis Club at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.

Hady gave an overview of what the Taylorville plant manufactures. The local plant produces some 23 million pounds of paper a year for automotive engine filters made by several major manufacturers. Hady said the local plant produces 59-percent of the paper used in auto filters in the United States, and their paper making machine is the largest in the world.

Hady added that the Taylorville plant is part of Ahlstrom's Transportation Filtration division. Ahlstrom has 5 paper-making divisions: one that produces paper for the food industry, one for the medical industry, one for the building and energy industry, one called Advanced Filtration, and its transportation filtration division.

Hady told the Kiwanis Club the local plant has 99 employees, with 85 of them residing in Christian County.
