The Illinois State Police reports that a semi-truck caught fire early Wednesday morning on Interstate 55. Around 3:05am, 65-year-old Dale M. Hoinoski of Greenwood, Missouri had been driving his semi-truck south on the on-ramp to Interstate 55 southbound from Toronto Road when he was reportedly distracted and lost control of the semi. The semi went off the left side of the ramp, through the grass ditch and became stuck on Interstate 55, partially blocking the right lane. 63-year-old Karl W. Warn of Grand Rapids, Michigan had been driving his semi-truck south on Interstate 55 in the right lane north of Hoinoski’s location. Warn reportedly did not see Hoinoski’s semi in the right lane until the last moment and struck the semi on the driver’s side. Warn’s semi immediately caught fire and veered off the west side of the roadway. Both drivers were able to escape without injury. Hoinoski was cited for improper lane usage.
