The Pana School District recently announced that they will be closing the Jefferson Middle School due to the lack of state funding. Superintendent Dr. David Lett tells Regional Radio News that they didn't have much choice when it came to closing the school:

Dr. Lett says he is hoping that Senate Bill 16 eventually passes which would re-work the State education funding formula and provide more money to the District.
