The Shelbyville City Council voted 4-1 at their last meeting to provide $50,000 toward the support of the Chautauqua Auditorium Preservation Committee’s goal of bringing the 111 year-old Chautauqua Auditorium back to its former glory. This will be used along with the addition to the $130,000 the committee raised over the past 10 years to rejuvenate the building.
The future of the building was called into question last spring when a city council member asked what it might cost to demolish the building. The 111th Birthday Celebration of the Shelbyville Chautauqua will be held May 31st through June 1st. For additional information, visit their website www.shelbyvillechautauqua.com
