The Taylorville Police Department has released the details of the crash at KFC that occurred earlier this month. On May 3 at 2:30am, 29-year-old Joshua A. Westerfield of Taylorville was traveling southbound on Webster Street. Westerfield reportedly traveled across the northbound lanes, crossed over a grass median, and then traveled another 60ft striking the KFC located at 510 North Webster. The vehicle struck the building and overturned. Westerfield was removed from the vehicle by breaking the driver side rear window as the doors on the vehicle reportedly would not open. The vehicle ended up a little over 30 feet away from the southwest corner of the building which was the point of impact. There was debris that was measured at 92 feet away from the southwest corner of the building. Westerfield was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield with injuries that were described by the police report as serious. An officer later made contact with Westerfield on May 7 and issued him citations for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Additional charges are possible pending further investigation.
