2 Taylorville High School Students Arrested on Drug Charges

Two Taylorville High School students were arrested on Wednesday on various drug charges. Around 9:05am, the Taylorville Police Department, along with Illinois State Police and the assistance of K9 Class #69, conducted a K9 search of Taylorville High School and surrounding parking areas where students park their vehicles. After a positive alert by K9 officer Echo 19-year-old Sheryce L. Long of Taylorville was escorted by school staff to the parking lot of the iWorship Center. Following the arrest, two metal smoking devices along with a container with a green leafy substance were located in the vehicle. Long was transported to Taylorville Police Department to be processed and the released back to THS on a notice to appear for possession of cannabis less than 10 grams.

K9 officer Echo then had another positive alert on a vehicle was parked along the roadway of the 1300 block of North Lawrence. A 17-year-old male juvenile was escorted by staff of THS to his vehicle. Following the arrest, the vehicle was searched and drug paraphernalia was located. The 17-year-old was transported to Taylorville Police Department to be processed on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and then released to his mother.
