Shelbyville Superintendent Speaks to Rotary About Tax Referendum

The Shelbyville Rotary Club recently met and had Craig Anderson, representative for the Lincoln Trail Boy Scouts of America as a visitor. The Club always welcomes guests and encourages members to invite people as it is the easiest way to get new members interested in Rotary.

The keynote speaker was Denise Bence, Superintendent of Shelbyville District schools. Her program was about the up-coming tax referendum to support area schools and their infrastructure. Bence showed the Club pictures of the decaying physical plant that provides heating for the high school and is in dire need of being replaced before it completely fails. Local citizens will vote to approve the tax referendum on March 18th.

Member Mike Kiley has volunteered to chair a program in which The Shelbyville Rotary Club would publicly support the passage of this tax referendum. He proposed that the club would serve as a site to collect money for the “Save our Schools Committee.”  The SOS would then publicize this issue in the forms of signs, advertising, and informational meetings. The club voted unanimously to publicly support school tax referendum.

The next meeting will be Monday, January 27 and the program chairman will be Glenn Davis.
