2 Pana Teens Arrested for Breaking into Library

2 Pana teenagers were arrested for allegedly breaking into the Pana Library. On Thursday at 11:55pm, a Pana Police Officer was on patrol checking doors and windows at the Pana Library when a screen was found to be removed and a glass window was smashed. A second unit arrived and officers discovered the east door was unlocked.

Officers entered to clear the building and discovered multiple drawers rummaged through after entrance was made through the broken window. Pana officers notified Library personnel who responded and discovered several items missing including two laptops, one kindle fire pad and other miscellaneous items.

Pana officers continued their investigation and were able to track multiple footprints due to a light snow on the ground. Officers located two subjects at the residence of 206 East Fifth Street. Upon further investigation, officers were able to located stolen property from the library in the basement of the residence.

18-year-old Michael W. Beaty and a 17-year-old male were taken into custody for the following charges: burglary, theft of government property over $500, and criminal damage to government property. Beaty was processed and transported to the Christian County Correctional Center. The 17-year-old was processed and released to a parent. The recovered stolen property was processed and will be returned to Library personnel.
