Champaign, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - A.J. Hammons registered 17 points, eight
rebounds and three blocks as the Purdue Boilermakers defeated the Illinois
Fighting Illini 66-58 in a Big Ten tilt at the State Farm Center.
Ronnie Johnson tallied 13 points for Purdue (12-5, 2-2 Big Ten). Terone
Johnson added 10 points.
Tracy Abrams scored 13 points with five assists for Illinois (13-5, 2-3),
which has lost three straight games. Joseph Bertrand and Rayvonte Rice each
scored 11 points with Rice also pulling down seven rebounds.
Illinois shot 41.9 percent from the floor in the first half and were left with
a 33-29 lead at the intermission. Purdue made just 37.1 percent of its field
goal attempts, including 1-of-11 from 3-point range in the period.
The Boilermakers made 48.1 percent of their shot attempts from the field in
the second half to push past the Illini, who netted just seven field goals
after the break.
Purdue dominated the glass, holding a 42-28 rebounding advantage.
