Barrie lifts Avs over Blackhawks in OT

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyson Barrie scored two goals, including the
game-winner  in overtime to  lift the Colorado Avalanche to a 3-2 win over the
Chicago Blackhawks at United Center.

Blackhawks  captain Jonathan  Toews went off for hooking with 1:26 left in the
extra  session. The  Avalanche struck  on the  subsequent power  play as  Matt
Duchene  whipped a  backhand pass  that Barrie  one-timed home  from the  left
circle with 50.7 seconds remaining.

"We  were fortunate to get a power play there and it was nice to capitalize on
that and get the two points," Barrie said.

Semyon  Varlamov stole  the two points for undermanned Colorado with a sublime
46-save performance.

The  Avalanche, who  improved to 6-1-1 in their last eight games, were already
playing  without  forward  Paul  Stastny  (leg)  and  defenseman  Cory  Sarich
(back)  when  defenseman Erik Johnson left  Tuesday's game with a back injury,
too.

Corey  Crawford  stopped 23 shots  for Chicago, which has  only one win in its
last five games (1-1-3).

"Our  record in overtime is rather one-sided against us," said Blackhawks head
coach Joel Quenneville.

Chicago fell to 0-5 in overtime this season.

Barrie's  first goal opened  the scoring at 14:58 of the first period and Ryan
O'Reilly, following good puck movement, made it 2-0 on a power play 62 seconds
later.

Johnny  Oduya was credited with a goal on a deflection, putting Chicago on the
board  8:12 into  the second period. The Blackhawks tied things up when Andrew
Shaw  knocked down  a rebound, turned around  in the slot and beat Varlamov at
7:27 of the third period.

                                   Game Notes

Varlamov  hasn't lost  in regulation in his last 14 starts (9-0-5) ... Brandon
Saad  assisted  on both Chicago  goals ... The Blackhawks were 0-for-5 on the
power play.
