Taylorville Kiwanis Hear About Bullying

width=(Taylorville)—Teresa Paul, a local parent of 2 teenage boys, was Tuesday’s guest speaker at the weekly meeting of the Taylorville Kiwanis Club at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.

Paul has become an advocate for a documentary movie recently released called “The Bully Project.”  It’s her goal to get the movie, which talks about bullying by elementary, junior and senior high school students, into area schools and other locations, to help stop and prevent what she says is an increasing problem in children and youth.

Paul told the club that bullying occurs anywhere, not just when a child or teenager is alone, and that it’s not resolved when you ignore it.

Several guests joined Taylorville Kiwanis members on Tuesday, including Kiwanis Illinois-Iowa Governor Patty Heath, Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor Cary Holman of Greenville, 4 members of the Greenville Kiwanis Club, and 3 members of the Girard Kiwanis Club.

The public is reminded to attend the upcoming Taylorville Kiwanis Pancake and Sausage Day on Saturday, January 25th from 6:30 to 11am at a new location, the Taylorville Moose Lodge.   Tickets can be purchased from any Kiwanis member or at the door.  Proceeds benefit the many Kiwanis projects for children and youth including Coats for Kids, Kiwanis Park, scholarships, and YMCA teams.

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club is part of global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.  Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at noon at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.  For information on the club, go to taylorvillekiwanis.com.
