The Taylorville Police Department is investigating the death of Taylorville resident. Shortly after 5:00pm on Friday, the Taylorville Police Department responded to a subject in the 100 block of East Market Street with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers discovered a female subject, later identified as Brenda Clifton, age 44, of Taylorville, with a gunshot wound to the head. Clifton was transported to Taylorville Memorial Hospital where she later died due to her injuries.

The preliminary results of the investigation and autopsy are consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound as the cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Illinois State Police and the Christian County Coroner’s Office.
