Governor Pat Quinn today signed legislation in an attempt to increase voting participation in Illinois. The new bill will allow 17-year-olds to vote during a primary election if he or she will be 18-years-old on the date of the immediately following general election. This action is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to try to ensure that every voice is heard in Illinois. According to FairVote, 20 other states permit 17-year-olds to vote in the primary election.Governor Quinn signed the bill at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire. The new law takes effect January 1st, 2014.
