Montgomery County Republican Party Chairman Resigns

The Montgomery County Republican Party Chairman has stepped down from his post.  Jim Allen resigned Thursday after an email surfaced of him calling Erika Harold a “street walker” and “love child” of Democrats.  He also reportedly said Harold would lose the primary and then go back to be hired by a Chicago firm to fill its racial quota. Harold is an African American attorney and former Miss America, who’s challenging Congressman Rodney Davis in the 13th District.  Allen’s comments drew criticism from the national Republican Party.

Allen did apologize for the racially charged remarks he made in the email.

Harold announced earlier this month that she would challenge Davis for the Republican Primaries. Republicans have suggested she is in the race at the behest of the Democratic Party, as a spoiler.

Andrew Flach, a spokesman for Representative Davis, said the comments do not reflect the congressman's views.
