Taylorville Park District Has Heated Debate Over Increased Charges

The Taylorville Park District had a heated debate over a prevailing wage increase from Cyde Enterprises for a gutter replacement job at their meeting Tuesday night. The increase of 1468-dollars was not in the original bid presented to the board but was in a second contract that was signed by Operations Manager for Lakeshore Golf Course Jason Boldig without board approval. Board member Jim McCoy voiced his opinion saying that the charge is unfair and is not happy with Cyde:

The board agreed to not approve the payment until a payroll and list of supplies is provided and will hold back if Cyde refuses to provide proof. The board expects to have to pay the increase but all members agreed that they have to learn from this mistake.

Two Car Cruises were approved by the Taylorville Park District Tuesday night. The first will be held by the 40 Mile an Hour Club on Sunday September 8th from 10am-4pm at the Chautauqua Auditorium. There will be no charge for the event as Luke McLeod from the 40 Mile an Hour Club says it will be donation based:

The second Car Cruise is to be put on by the Kids R Kids group on September 28th from 4-9pm at the Manners Park Dining Hall. Right now there is a 7-dollar entry free and there will also be a live band. Further details on the event are still being put together.

The Manners Park Pool is preparing to open as soon as weather permits it. Recreation Director Baily Hancock gave her report at the Taylorville Park District meeting Tuesday night and says they have plenty of lifeguards ready to go for the summer:

Hancock also noted the Running Club has low attendance but she hopes more people will start to come out over the summer:

The Running Club meets on Saturdays at 8am and weather permitting morning water aerobics will begin on Monday, June 3rd.

The Taylorville Park District took care of many business items at their meeting Tuesday night. They approved a resolution to abolish the Taylorville Parks Foundation Certificate of Deposit and checking account. They will use the money from that to purchase new park benches. They approved the annual budget for the fiscal year from March 2nd, 2013 to February 28, 2014. They also agreed to take the nice neighbor approach after having someone park a boat for several weeks on the Perkinson’s Property. The board decided to send a signed ordinance to the people living in the house near there letting them know where the park’s property ended and theirs begins. They also approved bills for Skinner Limited’s testing and work on a new well and Ricci Plumbing putting in a new gast compressor and alarm that is needed with the recent moving of the septic tank at Lakeshore Golf Course.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:20pm.
