Illinois State Police Not Recommending Travel Sunday Night; Level 2 Snow Emergency Declaration in Christian County

The Illinois State Police are not recommending travel Sunday night, due to the winter storm.

Interstate 57 at Pesotum is closed due to the heavy snow.

Christian County Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp has issued a Level 2 Snow Emerency Declaration. All roadways are hazardous, with blowing and drifting snow. No one should be out during these conditions, unless it is absolutely necessary to travel.


Drivers may be ticketed and vehicle may be towed if abandoned on the roads thereby hindering emergency operations.

Christian County has received over 12 inches of snow, it is anticipated that a level 3 declaration is possible.

A level 3 declaration would include all roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel..
