U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis of Taylorville has introduced legislation he says will put local school districts back in control of schools and ensure that that classrooms are not being over-regulated by the federal government.
Congressman Davis says the legislation, known as the Local School Board Governance and Flexibility Act, would assist the 861 school districts in Illinois by preventing the Department of Education from issuing rules that conflict with a school’s goals, budget priorities and educational programs.
The bill also ensures that schools are not spending resources complying with duplicative and unnecessary regulations put forth by the feds, and requires the Department of Education to seek input from local school boards, superintendents, principals and teachers before issuing new regulations and grant conditions.
