>>Brewers Hold Off Cards

(Milwaukee, WI)  --  Corey Hart hit a two-run single during a four-run first frame as the Milwaukee Brewers held on for a 4-3 win against the St. Louis Cardinals.  David Freese and Allen Craig both blasted solo home runs for St. Louis.  Adam Wainwright struck out nine, but gave up four runs, one earned, in
seven innings of duty to suffer the loss.  The Cards have dropped five of their
last six games.  They look to bounce back against the rival Cubs tonight with
Kyle Lohse taking the hill opposite Ryan Dempster.

>>Cubs Beat Marlins In Rain-Shortened Game

(Chicago, IL)  --  Jeff Baker doubled in two runs during a four-run seventh inning as the Cubs beat the
Marlins, 5-1, in a rain-shortened affair.  The game was called in the top of the
eighth inning.  Starlin Castro popped a solo homer for the Cubs, who have won
five-of-six.  James Russell was credited his third win.  Paul Maholm [[
muh-HALL-um ]] gets the nod against Mark Buehrle [[ BURR-lee ]] in this
afternoon's series finale.

>>Two Cubs' Minor Leaguers Suspended

(New York, NY)  --  Major League Baseball has suspended two Chicago Cubs
minor league pitchers for the use of performance-enhancing drugs.  Juancito De
La Cruz and Antonio Encarnacion, who are currently on the roster of the
Dominican Summer League Cubs, were both suspended 50 games after testing
positive for metabolites of Stanozolol.  Both suspensions are without pay and
are effective immediately.

>>Red Sox Smash White Sox

(Boston, MA)  --  Cody Ross homered twice and knocked in six runs as the
Red Sox hammered the White Sox, 10-1.  Paul Konerko smacked an RBI single in the
first for Chicago.  Pedro Hernandez was shelled for eight runs and 12 hits in
four-plus innings to take the loss in his MLB debut.  Jose Quintana will toe the
rubber opposite Clay Buchholz in this evening's series finale.
